Martín Vega Olmedo is an Assistant Professor of Spanish, Latin American, and Caribbean Literatures and Cultures at Scripps College. He earned his PhD in Romance Languages and Literatures from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and a BA in Comparative Literature from the University of California, Irvine. Prior to his current role, he served as a College Fellow at Harvard University and a Visiting Assistant Professor at Miami University.

Research Interests:
Dr. Vega Olmedo specializes in Mesoamerican indigenous literatures, particularly Nahuatl cultural and linguistic studies. His work investigates intersections of race, gender, and colonialism in Mexico’s history, including studies of indigenous women’s governance roles and 17th-century socio-cultural uses of maguey plants. His book project analyzes beauty and color regimes in colonial Mexico. He actively promotes Nahuatl language revitalization through curriculum integration and co-translated poetry into Nahuatl with Amy Sara Carroll.
