Martin Steen Mortensen is a Senior Researcher and Head of the Research Group for Gut, Microbes and Health at the National Food Institute, Technical University of Denmark (DTU). He is part of the DTU Microbes Initiative and actively contributes to research on intestinal microbiomes, inflammatory bowel disease, and microbial therapeutics.
- Research Focus: Gut microbiota, faecalibacterium prausnitzii, probiotic interventions, and antibiotic effects on microbiome.
- Key Collaborations: Extensive work with T. R. Licht, C. L. Hvas, and S. M. D. Baunwall.
Recent Publications: His 2025 work includes studies on faecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) for Clostridioides difficile infection and diabetes-related gut neuropathy. Earlier studies (2024) explore dietary fiber impacts on chemical excretion and engineered probiotics for colitis.
Projects: Currently leads research on micro-scale intestinal sampling devices (2022-2026) and acts as supervisor for ulcerative colitis therapy projects (2018-2024).
