Martin Sperling serves as a Researcher at the Muthesius Academy of Fine Arts in Kiel, Germany, affiliated with the Center for Media (Zentrum für Medien). He holds a Diplom in Design (Dipl.-Des.) and has been an active member of the academic community since at least 2011, teaching specialized courses in digital and interactive design. As a representative in Wahlgruppe 2 of the University Senate, he contributes to institutional governance alongside colleague Sven Lütgen.
With expertise spanning web technologies, interactive media, and digital design principles, Sperling's research interests focus on the intersection of typography and motion, information architecture in digital contexts, and innovative approaches to science communication through design. His work explores how digital media can transform traditional design practices, particularly in the realms of kinetic typography, augmented reality applications, and responsive web design systems. His teaching portfolio demonstrates consistent engagement with emerging technologies and their creative applications in design education.
Sperling has served as course instructor for over a decade, developing specialized seminars that bridge theoretical concepts with practical implementation. Notably, he represented Professor Tom Duscher during a research sabbatical in Spring Semester 2015 and has frequently collaborated with Duscher on project seminars exploring media relationships, augmented reality concepts, and narrative web development. His work with the Center for Media has included significant institutional projects such as the Muthesius Academy website redesign and development of the institution's online presence.
