Martin Platz is a tenor and singing instructor at the University of Music Würzburg, where he has been teaching since 2007. He maintains a dual career as both an educator and a professional performer with the Nuremberg State Theater opera ensemble.
Platz received his musical training at the Würzburg University of Music and Performing Arts, studying singing with Martin Hummel and choral conducting with Prof. Jörg Straube. He further developed his artistry through master classes with Magret Honig and Peter Nelson, and has been under the artistic supervision of Tilman Lichdi for several years. His educational background combines formal instruction with practical mentorship from established professionals.
As a performer, Platz specializes in lyric tenor repertoire with particular expertise in Mozart roles and German art song. His performance interests span from Baroque to Romantic periods, with significant work in both opera and oratorio traditions. He demonstrates versatility across musical styles while maintaining a strong foundation in classical vocal technique.
Platz maintains an active international performance schedule alongside his teaching responsibilities. His artistic collaborations include work with renowned conductors such as Christopher Hogwood, Bernhard Labadie, Marcus Bosch, Paul Agnew, and Hervet Niquet, demonstrating his standing within the European classical music community. His current season includes performing as Tamino in Mozart's Magic Flute at the Nuremberg State Theater.
