Martin Pillei

Martin Pillei is a Professor at MCI, serving as Head of the Department and Study Programs in Industrial Engineering & Management since February 2023. He holds a Dr.-Ing. from Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg and academic roles including Head of the Research Focus Fluids & Mechanics and External Lecturer at the University of Innsbruck. His expertise spans experimental and computational fluid mechanics, fluid systems engineering, and mechanical process engineering. Pillei's research focuses on fluid-structure interactions, hydrocyclone optimization, biogas production, and microplastic separation. He has led projects such as the SWARCO Digital Road Lab and contributed to advancements in separation technology, CFD applications, and environmental engineering. Recognitions include the 2021 'Preis der Landeshauptstadt Innsbruck für Forschung & Innovation.'

Education: BSc and MSc in Environmental, Process, and Biotechnology from MCI, and a Dr.-Ing. in Fluid Mechanics from FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg. Pillei has supervised numerous theses, mentored students in fluid dynamics and mechanical engineering, and collaborated on interdisciplinary projects in energy, waste management, and medical technology.
