Marc Koch is a Researcher at the Management Center Innsbruck (MCI), part of the University of Innsbruck's Faculty of Technical Sciences. He holds a Dr. techn. (PhD) in Technical Sciences from the University of Innsbruck and a Dipl.-Ing. (FH) in Process and Environmental Technology from MCI. His work focuses on environmental engineering, membrane technology, and sustainable resource management. He has led and participated in over 30 research projects funded by national and international bodies, including the Austrian Federal Ministry for Climate Protection, the Tiroler Innovationsförderung, and the European Union.
His research interests include membrane-based water treatment, biogas purification, micropollutant removal, and innovative waste-to-resource processes. Notably, he received the 2013 Best Scientific Poster Award for his work on energy-dense biomass via hydrothermal carbonization. Koch has supervised numerous Bachelor’s and Master’s theses, covering topics like ionic liquid membranes, biogas separation, and advanced oxidation processes.
Key projects include the development of PFAS-Trap (a system for PFAS removal from groundwater), IsoChar (utilizing biochar in construction), and AquaGrowth (enhancing anaerobic digester efficiency). His peer-reviewed publications span journals like Chemical Engineering Science and Polymers, addressing membrane fabrication, fouling reduction, and environmental remediation.
Awards and recognitions highlight his contributions to sustainable technologies, while his grants and collaborations underscore his role in bridging academic research with industrial applications. Koch's work often emphasizes practical solutions for environmental challenges, such as wastewater treatment and renewable energy systems.
