Martin Nielsen is an Associate Professor of Catalytic Chemistry at the Department of Chemistry, Technical University of Denmark (DTU). His research spans inorganic coordination chemistry, sustainable catalysis, and supramolecular systems. He leads the Catalysis and Sustainable Chemistry Group, focusing on renewable energy applications.

Research interests include catalytic systems for sustainable chemistry, polynuclear complexes as superatoms, and supramolecular drug delivery cages. He explores fundamental inorganic-organic hybrid approaches for industrial and biomedical applications.
His group employs Ru-pincer complexes and ionic liquids for CO2 hydrogenation, biomass upgrading, and enzyme active site mimicry. Recent projects involve metal-organic framework engineering and ultrafast X-ray dynamics studies.
