Prof. Dr. Martin Murmann is a tenure-track Assistant Professor for Innovation Management and Entrepreneurship at the Business School of Bern University of Applied Sciences (BFH). He also serves as a Senior Research Associate at the University of Zurich and holds a research position at the Leibniz Centre for European Economic Research (ZEW) Mannheim. His expertise spans entrepreneurship, innovation strategy, and personnel management in startups.
He holds a PhD in Management and Economics from the University of Zurich (2012–2017) and an MSc in Economics from the University of Konstanz (2004–2010). His research focuses on human capital dynamics in entrepreneurial firms, organizational design of startups, and the interplay between labor markets and innovation.
Murmann’s work emphasizes practical insights into startup growth, employee retention during professionalization, and policy effects on entrepreneurship. His publications explore topics such as deep-tech ventures, founder age, and the role of unemployment benefits in shaping startup success.
He teaches courses on Innovation and Entrepreneurship, Introduction to Management, and Consumer/Manager Decision-Making at BFH. His affiliations include ZEW and IAB Nuremberg, where he contributed to projects on energy transition entrepreneurship and export activities of young firms.
