Martin Longworth is a Senior Lecturer in Sports Coaching and Physical Education at Hartpury University, within the Department of Sport. He is the programme manager for the MSc Sports Coaching and leads the Hartpury University Sports Coaching Centre as its Director. He also serves as Head Coach of Hartpury University FC. Previously, he held academic and coaching roles at the University of Wolverhampton and Cardiff Metropolitan University.

His work emphasizes qualitative methods and aims to bridge theory with applied practice, focusing on how student-coaches navigate their work-based learning experiences.
His recent publications and research projects reflect a strong focus on pedagogical strategies, micro-political literacy, and the contextual challenges in coach development. Themes such as reality-grounded training, work-based learning, and reflective coaching practice recur across his scholarly output.

His leadership extends to organizing professional development events and contributing to national coach development frameworks.
