Dr. Martin-Leo Hansmann is a Senior Fellow at the Frankfurt Institute for Advanced Studies (FIAS) since 2016 and holds a Professorship at Goethe University Frankfurt/Main. Formerly, he served as a C4 Professor at the Senckenberg Institute of Pathology (Goethe University Frankfurt) from 1996 to 2018 and as a C3 Professor at the University of Cologne (1990-1996). His research focuses on pathology, immunology, and malignant lymphomas, spanning over 30 years of work on single-cell PCR, 3D/4D laser visualization, and machine learning applications in cell dynamics.
- Education: Diploma in Biology (University of Bonn, 1974); Medical State Examination (University of Bonn, 1977); Doctorate (1982); Habilitation (1987) at University of Kiel.
His groundbreaking work includes the development of single-cell PCR technology to study Hodgkin cells and B-cell mutations, as well as pioneering 3D/4D imaging to analyze lymphocyte motility and interactions. Current efforts aim to create “digital twins” of lymph nodes for advanced diagnostics and cell therapies. He is also a member of the National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina since 2009.

Hansmann leads research groups at FIAS and the Institute for Pharmacology and Toxicology at Goethe University Frankfurt since 2022, while directing the Reference & Consultation Center for Lymph Node and Lymph Compathology at Helios University Hospital Wuppertal and University Witten/Herdecke since 2018.
