Martin Kolnes is a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Psychology Department at Leiden University, having previously served as Junior Research Fellow at the University of Tartu. His research examines cognitive regulation mechanisms, particularly how attention control is modulated by emotional states and reward processing using pupillometry and behavioral measures. His doctoral work developed models of appraisal-driven attention modulation validated through experimental paradigms.
His research investigates:
- Neural gain modulation of attention breadth
- Emotion-cognition interactions in attention tasks
- Reward prospect versus reception effects on performance
- Pupillary responses as indicators of cognitive effort
- Individual differences in self-concept measurement
He contributes to major projects including the Estonian Center of Excellence of Well-Being Sciences research on affect and regulation. As teaching assistant for chemometrics and machine learning courses, he bridges experimental psychology with computational approaches. His publication record demonstrates consistent focus on attention-emotion interactions using innovative methodologies.
