Prof. Dr. Martin Koch is a Professor at Universität Bielefeld's Faculty of Sociology, Department 4 - Politics and Society. He serves as Spokesperson for Work Area 4, is a member of the MA Examination Board and Faculty Conference, and acts as Academic Student Advisor. His office is located in Building X C3-200, with consultation hours held regularly on Tuesdays from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m.

Prof. Koch's research focuses on international organizations and institutions, theories of international relations, world society research, global inequality, organizational sociology, and political sociology. He leads the DFG-funded project "A Theory of World Entities" (ATOWE) in collaboration with the Russian Foundation and is an Associate Member of the Collaborative Research Center 1288 "Practices of Comparison: Ordering and Changing the World." His work bridges theoretical political science with empirical studies of global governance structures.
With professional experience spanning from 2001 to present, Prof. Koch has held positions including Assistant Professor at Bielefeld University since 2017 (tenured), Acting Full Professor roles at both University of Potsdam and Bielefeld University, and various research positions including Managing Director of the Institute for World Society Studies. He has received research support through DFG funding and DAAD scholarships, and has been a Visiting Scholar at institutions including United Nations University-WIDER in Helsinki, Carleton University, and St. Petersburg State University.
