Dr Martin Hedemann-Robinson is a Senior Lecturer in Law at the University of Kent's Kent Law School, a role he has held since 2007. Previously, he was a Lecturer in Law at Brunel University (1993–2007) and served as a legal administrator in the European Commission’s Environment Directorate-General (2001–2003). He holds a first law degree in English and German Law from the University of Kent and a Master’s in European Law from the University of Saarland (1990), followed by qualification as a solicitor (non-practising since 1993).
His research focuses on European Union and International Environmental Law, particularly enforcement mechanisms. Key contributions include two monographs: Enforcement of International Environmental Law (2019) and Enforcement of European Union Environmental Law (2015, 2017). These works analyze legal frameworks for ensuring compliance with environmental norms at EU and international levels, informed by his EU Commission experience.
Teaching responsibilities include European Union Law, International Environmental Law, International Trade and the Environment, and Competition Law in Transnational Context. He supervises postgraduate research students in EU law and environmental law domains.
Professional roles include Editor of the EU Current Survey section of Environmental Liability journal (since 2003) and non-practising solicitor status. His publications span articles on environmental law enforcement, EU policy, and transnational legal challenges.
