Prof. Dr. Martin Hanke-Bourgeois is a faculty member in the Institute of Mathematics at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz, affiliated with the Department of Physics, Mathematics, and Computer Science. His research is centered on numerical mathematics and computational methods, with strong involvement in interdisciplinary simulation projects.
His research interests include numerical analysis, multiscale modeling, inverse problems, and the simulation of soft matter systems. He applies computational techniques to problems in the natural sciences, particularly through advanced discretization and iterative methods.
He is actively involved in major collaborative research initiatives, including the Collaborative Research Center TRR 146 "Multiscale Simulation Methods for Soft Matter Systems," where he contributes to Project A3 and Project B1. Since 2019, this effort has been continued under M³OSEL - Mainz Institute of Multiscale Modelling. He also participates in the Rhine-Main Working Group "Mathematics of Computation," promoting regional cooperation in computational science.
Prof. Hanke-Bourgeois teaches courses in numerics and supervises academic activities, including compact seminars and advanced seminars in numerics. His work integrates theoretical rigor with practical simulation, supporting the Center for Computational Sciences in Mainz.
