Martin Gräfe is a Professor of Programmable Systems and Dean of Studies for Programmable Systems and Circuit Technology at the Technical University of Mittelhessen (THM) in Friedberg, Germany. Based in office A2.2.05, he teaches foundational engineering courses including Introduction to Programming, Digital Technology, and Embedded Systems, with office hours held Mondays 2:00-3:00 p.m. during summer semesters.
Education:
- 1988-1993: Electrical Engineering at University of Dortmund (now TU Dortmund)
- 1993-1998: Doctorate in integrated infrared transmission systems at University of Dortmund
Research Focus: Prof. Gräfe pioneers IP-based building automation to replace legacy systems (KNX/LON) with Ethernet/IP over two-wire lines using SHDSL technology. His work achieves 15 Mbit/s data rates over kilometers-long cables while enabling power transmission and interference-resistant communication. He concurrently develops educational tools like StruktoSim for algorithm testing and Simple Draw for C programming visualization.
Professional Contributions: Since joining THM in 2012, he has integrated industry experience from Busch-Jaeger Elektro GmbH (1998-2002) and Ritto GmbH (2002-2012) into curriculum development. His tools were presented at the 2014 Engineering Education Regional Conference, demonstrating commitment to engineering pedagogy through practical software solutions.
