Martin Eriksson is an Associate Professor at the Unit of Economic History, Umeå University, Sweden. His research focuses on economic history, regional policy, transport history, and taxation, with a particular emphasis on historical political economy in Sweden and the Nordic region. He has published extensively on topics such as icebreaker fleet development, defense economics, and tax policy reforms.
Research Interests: Eriksson explores the intersection of national institutions and regional outcomes, with recurring themes in transport infrastructure (e.g., icebreaking along the Norrland coastline), taxation evolution (e.g., inheritance tax reforms), and public-private dynamics in economic policy. His work often integrates comparative analysis and institutional frameworks.
Research Projects: He is involved in two key projects: (1) 'Children in Arctic Sweden during the 1920s and 1930s: the significance of upbringing conditions for health and well-being later in life' (2024), and (2) 'The Swedish Business Federations and Economic Policy-making 1921-1933. Integration, Confrontation or Cooperation?' (2012–2014). Additionally, he contributes to the research group 'Revisioning the EU's jurisdiction over tax policy norms (WP1).'
