Dr. Martin DW MacGregor is a Senior Lecturer in Scottish History at the University of Glasgow's Department of History. His research focuses on the history of Gaelic-speaking Scotland, particularly from 1328 to 1625, with an emphasis on political, social, cultural, religious, and economic aspects. He explores themes such as Gaelic identity, Highland governance, clan structures, oral traditions, and the interplay between Gaelic Scotland and Ireland.
He collaborates on projects like 'Women in late medieval Gaelic Scotland and Ireland' and 'early modern Gaelic Scotland.' His teaching spans undergraduate to postgraduate levels, including modules on the Highland Clearances, Gaelic Scotland's relationship with the British state, and the medieval Scottish Highlands.
Dr. MacGregor has supervised numerous PhD students, contributing extensively to Scottish historical scholarship. He co-edited the volume Mìorun Mòr nan Gall and co-presented the BBC radio series Bheir Dhomh Sgeul air Clann Ghriogair. His work bridges academic research with public engagement, emphasizing Gaelic culture's continuity and transformation.
