معرفی
Martin Ballegaard is a Clinical Associate Professor in Neurology at the Department of Clinical Medicine, Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen. He concurrently serves as Head of Clinical Neurophysiology Research at Zealand University Hospital - Roskilde since April 2022, demonstrating dual institutional leadership in academic medicine and clinical neurophysiology.
His educational credentials include:
- Cand med (University of Copenhagen, 1992)
- PhD in Impulse conduction in the pyramidal tract during Experimental Allergic Encephalomyelitis (University of Copenhagen, 2001)
- Master of Public Governance - Sense making across professional borders (Copenhagen Business School, 2017)
Dr. Ballegaard's research centers on peripheral nerve and central nervous system physiopathology, with pioneering work in digital health applications for functional deficiency documentation. His Interreg Health Advancing Technologies (HeAT) project develops the Neuropathy Tracker for chemotherapy-induced neuropathy monitoring in breast cancer patients, while his EEG/ECG studies investigate cortical-autonomic interactions in epilepsy and intracranial lesions. He also examines sleep-physical activity effects on motor learning in Multiple Sclerosis patients through collaborations with The Danish MS Society and Gangsted Foundation.
His recent publications (2023-2025) reveal a dominant focus on chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy in oncology settings, digital health validation for neurological assessment, and clinical neurophysiology standardization. These works consistently bridge neurology, oncology, and health technology through rigorous clinical studies and multicenter trials.
His scientific recognition includes:
- Københavns Universitets Guldmedalje (Copenhagen University Gold Medal, 1991)
Dr. Ballegaard teaches neurology to medical master students and supervises BSc, MSc, and PhD candidates from both University of Copenhagen (Faculty of Health) and Danish Technical University (Health Tech). His research is funded by Interreg DK/DE, The Danish MS Society, and Gangsted Foundation, reflecting strong institutional support for his translational work.
He leads the Clinical Neurophysiology Research unit at Zealand University Hospital, directing EEG/ECG monitoring projects and developing digital biomarkers for neurological disorders through interdisciplinary collaborations across neuroscience and health technology domains.
