Martie Cook is a Professor at Emerson College in the School of Film, Television, and Media Arts, Department of Visual and Media Arts. With over three decades of experience as a writer and producer for ABC, NBC, CBS, PBS, and major studios including Warner Bros. and Universal Studios, she has significantly shaped television and film education. At Emerson since 2002, she co-created the screenwriting program and founded the United States' first BFA in Comedic Arts.

Research Interests: Professor Cook specializes in practical screenwriting techniques, television comedy development, and socially impactful media production. Her work bridges Hollywood industry standards with academic rigor, emphasizing how humor and storytelling can address social issues like homelessness and youth violence. Her critically acclaimed book Write To TV: Out of Your Head and Onto the Screen serves as a foundational text in professional and academic writing programs.

Her mentorship directly produced a sold comedy pilot about the Afghanistan war to Warner Bros., Jerry Bruckheimer Television, and NBC. She secured Boston Mayor's Office support for anti-violence PSAs featuring professional athletes from the Patriots, Red Sox, and Revolution.
Labs and Teams: She co-created The Evvy Awards—the nation's largest student-produced live television show—which operates as a comprehensive production lab training students in all aspects of live broadcast television under nationally recognized award standards.
