Charles Kipps is a Lecturer in the Film Department at the School of Visual Arts (SVA) in New York City. He is a multi-award-winning screenwriter, producer, and author with extensive industry experience across film, television, and literature. His professional roles include work with major studios (ABC, Paramount, NBC, Universal, CBS, Fox) and leadership at Visilex Productions. Kipps has served as a lecturer and judge for the Writers Guild of America and hosts webinars for Script magazine.
Education: Bridgewater College. Professional experience spans screenwriting for films like Fat Albert and television series including Law & Order: Criminal Intent and Columbo. He has authored the Conor Bard Mystery series, the Harvey Chatham Novel series, and nonfiction works like Cop Without a Badge and Out of Focus.
Awards: Emmy Award, Peabody Award, Edgar Award (Mystery Writers of America), and Humanitas Prize. Recognized for contributions to television, film, and literary fiction.
Additional expertise includes music production, having written songs for Aretha Franklin and David Ruffin, and co-founding McCoy/Kipps Productions. Currently in preproduction for the romantic comedy Someday Sometime, which he will also direct.
