معرفی
Marthe Walvoort is an Associate Professor of Chemical Glycobiology at the University of Groningen, affiliated with the Faculty of Science and Engineering and the Department of Chemistry. Her research focuses on carbohydrate molecules' structure-functional relationships, particularly in biological systems like bacterial infections and gut microbiota interactions. She holds an ERC Starting Grant (€1.5M) for her project 'Sticky Sugars,' aiming to develop methods for carbohydrate chain synthesis and combat antibiotic resistance.
Educational Background: PhD in Chemistry (Leiden University, cum laude), postdoctoral research at MIT, and a Rosalind Franklin Fellowship at the University of Groningen. She co-founded the Young Academy Groningen.
Research Interests: Explores glycobiology in:
- Bacterial infections and pathogen-host interactions
- Bioactive carbohydrates' roles in health (e.g., probiotics, human milk oligosaccharides)
- Carbohydrate synthesis methodologies
Awards & Recognition:
- 2023: KNAW Early Career Award
- 2022: NWO Athena Award
- 2021: Gratama Prize
Grants & Projects: ERC Starting Grant (2023), Dutch Research Council (NWO) grants, and collaborations with MIT and Leiden University.
Labs/Teams: Leads a team advancing carbohydrate chemistry and glycobiology applications in biomedicine and biotechnology.
