Dr. Marthe Derkzen is a Lecturer and Researcher at the Health and Society department of Wageningen University & Research. Her work focuses on urban nature from a social justice perspective, addressing climate adaptation, local food systems, healthy neighborhoods, and stewardship of the commons. She leads the PARTIGAN project, exploring participatory greening to reduce health disparities. Previously, she coordinated an international land governance project funded by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs and worked at NWO as a policy officer.
Education: PhD in Environmental Geography (Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam), with research on urban ecosystem services in Rotterdam and Bangalore. She holds expertise in spatial analysis, environmental governance, and international development.
Research Interests: Combining environmental and social justice, her work examines how green infrastructure can promote equity and health in urban areas. Key themes include participatory approaches, climate adaptation strategies, and nature-based solutions.
Projects: Active in initiatives like the Living Lab Lindenholt and Accelerating Just Climate Transitions, which integrate citizen participation and policy innovation. Her projects bridge academia, policy, and community action.
Teaching: Instructors courses on science communication, planetary health, and environmental assets for health. Engages in public outreach via primary school science programs with Planeet in Actie.
