Martha Bulyk serves as Professor of Medicine and Professor of Pathology at Brigham & Women's Hospital and Harvard Medical School, with primary affiliation in the Division of Genetics within the Department of Medicine. She holds additional appointments as Associate Member of the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard and the Dana Farber Cancer Institute's Center for Cancer Systems Biology.
Her academic foundation includes dual undergraduate degrees in Biology and Mathematics from MIT (1993), followed by a Ph.D. in Biophysics from Harvard University (2001) under Dr. George Church. After initial appointment as Assistant Professor at Harvard, she advanced to her current full Professorship.
Dr. Bulyk's research integrates experimental and computational methodologies to investigate transcription factor binding, DNA regulatory elements, gene network dynamics, and functional impacts of genetic variants. Her group pioneers novel technologies for high-throughput analysis of protein-DNA interactions, bridging molecular biology, systems genetics, and computational genomics to elucidate regulatory mechanisms underlying human disease.
Her honors include:
- TR35 recognition by MIT Technology Review (2005) for innovation under age 35
- Genome Technology's 'Tomorrow's PIs' selection (2007)
- Ongoing membership in Faculty of 1000
With over 100 publications and 190+ invited seminars, Dr. Bulyk actively contributes to scientific discourse through grant review panels and editorial boards. Her laboratory at Harvard Medical School develops cutting-edge approaches to decode gene regulation, maintaining strong collaborations across the Broad Institute and Dana Farber Cancer Institute.
