Marta Paglioni is a Senior Lecturer in Health and Wellbeing at the University of Winchester, affiliated with the School of Nursing, Midwifery and Social Care within the Faculty of Health and Wellbeing. She holds a Master of Arts in Dramatherapy from Roehampton University (2016) and a Bachelor’s Degree in Performing Arts from La Sapienza, University of Rome (2014), alongside a Diploma in Acting (2002). Her clinical research focuses on compassionate communication with older patients in emergency departments, supported by a NHS/Bournemouth University clinical studentship. She maintains a private dramatherapy practice, The Cosy Room Dramatherapy, and is an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
Key teaching roles include workshops at Yeovil District Hospital on storytelling for dementia care, burnout prevention, and patient narratives, as well as academic sessions at Bournemouth University and the Universita’ Europea di Roma. Her research emphasizes dramatherapy’s application in healthcare, gerontology, and language education. Notable awards include the Alec Collier Memorial Award (2019) and recognition from the British Society of Gerontology (2019).
Marta’s work integrates arts-based methods into healthcare education and clinical practice, with a focus on improving communication, empathy, and patient-centered care. She actively contributes to conferences on humanizing healthcare systems and has presented at events such as the Schwartz Centre Compassion in Action Conference (2021) and the European Sigma Theta Tau Conference (2018).
