Marta Avesani

Marta Avesani is a researcher in the Marie Skłodowska-Curie project Presilient, focusing on resilient communities in the Global South post-pandemic. She is affiliated with the GLITSS research group, specializing in illicit trade and globalization, and conducted fieldwork in Ecuador as a visiting researcher at the Latin American Faculty of Social Sciences (FLACSO).

Education:

• MA in International Relations, Erasmus Mundus, University of Glasgow (2020–2022)
• BA in International Relations, University of Trieste (2016–2019)

Her research examines how sustainability certifications in Latin America are undermined by corruption, impacting development and working conditions. She employs empirical methods, including fieldwork in Ecuadorian plantations and the Amazon, to analyze the intersection of illicit economies and certification systems.

Avesani contributed to the PRESILIENT Horizon Scanning Dataset (2024) and presented at workshops on informality, sustainable consumerism, and certification schemes.
