Marsha Schweitzer is a Lecturer in Music at the University of Hawaii at Mānoa's Department of Music. For over five decades, she has been a cornerstone of Hawaii's musical community, serving as a bassoonist in the Spring Wind Quintet (1974–2024) and the Honolulu/Hawaii Symphony Orchestra (1971–2016). She is also a prolific arranger, music publisher, author, and labor journalist. Her work includes arranging music featured on the Grammy-nominated album 'Keola Beamer: Malama Ko Aloha' (2012) and compiling her writings into the 2019 book *The Arts from the Bottom Up*, which explores arts management, labor relations, and art philosophy.
She co-founded Chamber Music Hawaii and held leadership roles in the Musicians Association of Hawaii, Local 677 AFM (2001–2013). Her contributions span performances on NPR, Hawaii Public Radio, and film, alongside advocacy for arts and labor causes. Recent institutional recognitions include the 2025 NAfME Collegiate Chapter of Excellence award for her department.
Her research and practice intersect music performance, labor advocacy, and cultural preservation, reflecting her dual roles as an artist and community organizer.
