Marsha Lovett is a Professor of Psychology (Teaching) and Vice Provost for Teaching and Learning Innovation at Carnegie Mellon University. She holds dual affiliations within the Dietrich College of Humanities and Social Sciences and leads the Eberly Center, which supports evidence-based teaching practices. Her work bridges cognitive science and educational innovation, focusing on improving college-level learning through interventions in disciplines like physics, statistics, and engineering.
Her research employs methodologies such as computational modeling, classroom studies, and learning analytics to develop tools like StatTutor (an intelligent tutoring system) and the Learning Dashboard. She co-authored the influential textbook How Learning Works, which translates research into actionable teaching strategies. As Vice Provost, she oversees CMU’s strategic educational initiatives, including online program development and faculty training in data-driven pedagogy.
