Maroun Fouad

Maroun Fouad is a CNRS Research Director and Head of the Electrochemistry and Thin Films group at the Laboratory of Condensed Matter Physics, École Polytechnique, France. He leads research on nanoscale electrochemical processes in thin oxide films and their atomic-scale properties. His work integrates electrochemistry, materials science, and surface physics.

His research focuses on understanding the fundamental aspects of electrochemical deposition and dissolution of ultra-thin oxide films. Using advanced techniques such as scanning probe microscopy, X-ray diffraction and absorption, and in-situ magnetic measurements, he correlates electrochemical behavior with atomic-scale structure. His work has significant implications for energy materials, electrocatalysis, and functional nanomaterials.

The recent publications reveal a strong trend in operando characterization of electrocatalytic materials, particularly cobalt oxides for oxygen evolution, and the role of atomic-scale environments in bimetallic systems and de-alloying processes. His work bridges electrochemistry with solid-state physics and materials engineering.
