Dr. Marnina Gonick is a Professor of Education and Women’s Studies at Mount Saint Vincent University (MSVU), holding a Canada Research Chair in Gender since 2007. She has a joint appointment between the Faculty of Education and the Women’s Studies program. Her research focuses on girlhood studies, feminist cultural studies, and qualitative methodologies. She earned her PhD in Sociology and Equity Studies from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE), University of Toronto.
Her work explores topics such as neoliberalism’s impact on girlhood, feminist pedagogies, and visual culture. Notable publications include Between Femininities: Ambivalence, Identity and the Education of Girls (2003) and co-edited volumes like Becoming Girl: Collective Biography and the Production of Girlhood (2014). She collaborates on SSHRC and CIHR-funded projects addressing youth wellbeing and structural violence.
Dr. Gonick serves as Graduate Coordinator for the Women and Gender Studies program and co-created the video installation Voices in Longitude and Latitude with her brother Noam. Her academic contributions span editorial roles for Girlhood Studies and Gender and Education, emphasizing interdisciplinary feminist scholarship.
