Marnie Brown is a full-time Lecturer in the Faculty of Law at Monash University, serving as Chief Examiner for core subjects including Australian Legal Process and Research, Intellectual Property, and Introduction to Intellectual Property Law. With over 17 years of international teaching experience across Australia, Japan (Waseda University, Asia University), and South Korea, she specializes in law-linguistics integration and digital pedagogy for diverse student populations.
Her academic qualifications include:
- Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from Bond University
- Master of Laws (LLM) in Intellectual Property from Monash University
- Master of Applied Linguistics (Honors) from the University of Melbourne
Brown's research centers on artificial intelligence applications in legal education, particularly for English as an Additional Language (EAL) students in Australian law schools. Her current PhD at Monash Law investigates AI-driven strategies to enhance academic success and inclusion for Asian Indo-Pacific EAL learners, intersecting Intellectual Property Law, Digital Law, and linguistic accessibility. She also explores privacy, surveillance, and cybercrime through digital learning frameworks.
Recognized with multiple teaching awards for innovative digital pedagogy, Brown has developed specialized content for Monash Online including Privacy and Surveillance in an Information Age and Cybercrime. As a qualified lawyer and Trade Marks Attorney, her work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education).
