Dr. Marnie Best is a Lecturer and researcher in UniSA Education Futures at the University of South Australia, affiliated with the Centre for Research in Educational and Social Inclusion. She holds a PhD and a Bachelor of Education (First Class Honours). Her work focuses on inclusive education, disability studies, and alternative education provision, particularly addressing systemic barriers faced by marginalized students. She leads projects such as 'Early career teacher retention in complex alternative education settings' and has authored/co-edited influential works like Who’s In? Who’s Out? What to Do about Inclusive Education (2018). Dr. Best serves as Executive Editor of the Journal of Disability Studies in Education, Associate Editor of International Journal of Inclusive Education, and Senior Editor of Cogent Education's Inclusive and Special Education section.
Her research explores intersections between policy and practice in inclusive education, adolescent wellbeing, and sociocultural theory. Key contributions include analyzing pandemic impacts on global education equity and advocating for inclusive pedagogical frameworks. Awards include an Australian Centre for Child Protection Research Scholarship for doctoral studies.
