Marnia Pickens is a full-time Lecturer in the Department of Philosophy within the College of Liberal Arts at Regis University, actively engaged in public philosophy through a bi-annual Philosophy and Film series in Boulder, CO, that convenes academics, students, and the public.
Education
- Master of Arts in Philosophy from the University of Colorado, Boulder, specializing in philosophy of late antiquity.
Research Interests: Her scholarship critically examines popular culture as philosophical terrain, with dual emphases on Rock and Roll as Philosophical Discourse and Philosophy of Popular Culture. Through the Philosophy and Film series, she extends this work into cinematic analysis, demonstrating how mainstream media facilitates accessible philosophical dialogue. Her teaching methodology prioritizes contextualizing classical philosophical concepts within modern cultural frameworks.
Prior to academia, she maintained a 20+ year professional music career spanning Broadway performances, collaborations with Ronnie Spector, and punk-rock engagements at CBGB with The Ramones—experiences that fundamentally shape her interdisciplinary academic approach.
