Dr. Marmar Moussa is an Assistant Professor in the School of Computer Science at the University of Oklahoma's Gallogly College of Engineering. She joined OU in July 2023 after serving as an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Connecticut (2021-2023) and completing a postdoctoral fellowship in Cancer Immunology & Computational Genomics at UConn Health (2019-2021). Her research focuses on designing algorithms and machine learning methods for single-cell genomics applied to cancer immunology. Key areas include tumor etiology, evolution, and tumor microenvironment analysis in single-cell resolution.
- Education:
- Ph.D., Computer Science and Engineering (2019), University of Connecticut (Taylor Booth Fellowship recipient)
- M.S., Computer Science and Engineering (2018, Bioinformatics focus), University of Connecticut
- M.S., Computer Science and Engineering (2004, Cryptography focus), Alexandria University, Egypt
- B.S., Computer Science, Alexandria University, Egypt
Her research interests span computational biology, cancer immuno-omics, and single-cell omics. Notable achievements include the NIH-NCI K25 Career Development Award ($993,605) and NSF Award ($200,000). Dr. Moussa's work emphasizes developing tools like SC1 for single-cell RNA-Seq analysis and computational methods for tumor progression modeling. Her recent studies explore β-adrenergic signaling's role in immune cell development and walnut-derived urolithin A's anti-inflammatory effects.
- Grants & Awards:
- NIH-NCI K25CA270079 (2023)
- NSF2212512 (2022)
Labs/Teams: Leads computational oncology and bioinformatics projects at OU, collaborating with institutions like UConn Health and the Neag Cancer Center. Active in organizing the ICCABS conference for bioinformatics advancements.
