Marlène Douty is a Togolese theatre director, actor, and playwright with extensive experience across Africa and Europe. She currently serves as President of the Togolese Theatre Federation and directs Clinik'Art theatre company. Since 2021, she has taught in the Professional Master's in Theatre-Education at the University of Lomé. She will join hmt Rostock as a guest Visiting Professor from April 2025, supported by DAAD funding.
Her research focuses on transcultural theatre education blending Togolese traditional performance practices with modern pedagogy. Notable works include the award-winning play Apocalypse 12:09 (2023 Literary Prize, University of Lomé) and 14, pas 11 (2014), which explored socio-political themes in West Africa. During the pandemic, she pioneered Théâtre Chez Vous, staging 169 Chekhov performances in Togo's local languages.
Collaborations include projects at Konstanztheater and Münchner Kammerspiele (Germany), addressing German colonial history in Togo. Her teaching emphasizes cross-cultural exchange, with previous stints at hmt Rostock through University of Lomé partnerships.
