Marlies de Vries

Prof. Marlies de Vries is a Professor at Nyenrode Business Universiteit, holding the research chair in Behavioral Audit, Assurance & Control. She teaches core courses on business processes, risk management, ICT, and organizational behavior/culture for accountants and controllers. Her research focuses on governance, risk management, and the interplay between organizational culture/behavior and control mechanisms. She has advised the Dutch government on the future of the accountancy sector, serving on the Ministerial Commission (2019–2020) and as Quartermaster for Sectoral Development (2020–2023).

Her academic contributions bridge theory and practice, informed by her background as a chartered accountant and former PricewaterhouseCoopers experience. She received the 2021 Best Impact Case Award for her research on young accountants' experiences. Her work emphasizes improving professional quality and sectoral resilience through dialogue and ethical compliance.

Key roles include membership in the Social Advisory Council for Nest Accountants Academy, the Autoriteit Financiële Markten curatorium, and the Financial Reporting Committee. She also runs Behavioral Risk Consulting and advises the Huis voor Klokkenluiders (Whistleblower House).
