Marlene Spanger is an Associate Professor at Aalborg University's Department of Politics and Society, within The Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities. She is affiliated with the Global Politics & Diversity research group, GRS - Global Refugee Studies, and the MIX - Center for Displacement, Migration and Integration. Holding an MA in International Development Studies and History, her research focuses on processes of inclusion and exclusion of migrants, particularly through the lens of racialisation, gender, and transnational migration policies.
Her work examines both bottom-up dynamics (e.g., migrant identities in gig economies) and top-down governance (e.g., anti-trafficking policies' impact on labour markets). Key projects include analyzing Nordic labour policies, migration infrastructure, and the green transition's social sustainability in industries like organic wine production. She has contributed to policy impacts, notably influencing employment regulations through collaborations with Nordic ministries.
