Dr. Marlene Camacho-Rivera is Assistant Professor in Community Health Sciences and Assistant Dean for Student Affairs at SUNY Downstate's School of Public Health. She holds a ScD and ScM in Social Epidemiology from Harvard School of Public Health, MPH from Tufts University, and BS from Cornell University. Her research focuses on structural determinants of chronic disease disparities in urban minority communities, with special emphasis on within-group heterogeneity among Latinos.
Research Focus: She designs and evaluates multilevel, community-engaged interventions for chronic disease prevention and self-management. Her scholarship integrates structural determinants of health into health professional education. Courses taught include Urban Health Issues and Methods in Community Intervention Research.
Recent publications (2023-2025) examine COVID-19 impacts on vulnerable populations, cannabis use for symptom management, cancer care inequities, anti-racist pedagogy in public health, and cardiovascular prevention in sexual minority men with HIV.
