Marlena Doktorczyk-Donohue is a Professor of Modern and Contemporary Art History at Otis College of Art and Design’s School of Liberal Arts and Sciences. She serves as Head of the Art History area and oversees Art History Honors classes. Beyond Otis, she directs the Bruce Beasley Foundation, a non-profit dedicated to sculpture studies. Her career spans over two decades of writing for publications like Los Angeles Times, Art in America, and Introspective, alongside authoring exhibition catalogs and a bilingual children’s poetry book.
- Research Focus: Modern/contemporary art, abstraction, feminist movements, African American art, cross-cultural dialogues
- Curatorial Achievements: Lead exhibitions like Forms of the Formless (China), Some City Angels (LA), and Asia/LA—LA/Asia (Seoul)
Her recent scholarship includes essays on Kim Abeles (2022), Jasper Johns (2022), and feminist graphic novels (2021). She co-teaches interdisciplinary classes like the Fine Arts Sophomore Seminar and Uniquely Abled, collaborating with the Exceptional Children’s Foundation. She received the Otis College Distinguished Teaching Award in 2017.
