Marleen de Ruiter is an Assistant Professor at the Water and Climate Risk department within the Institute for Environmental Studies (IVM) at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. She also serves as co-chair of the RiskKAN network and leads the Amsterdam Sustainability Institute's Natural Hazards & Society cluster with Dr. Sander Veraverbeke. Her research focuses on consecutive disasters, multi-hazard risk modeling, and the effectiveness of disaster risk reduction measures. She holds a PhD from VU Amsterdam (2020), an MSc from the University of British Columbia (2011), and a BSc from VU Amsterdam (2009).
