Marla Lohmann

Dr. Marla Lohmann is an Associate Professor and Program Director in the Graduate Special Education & Alternative Licensing Programs at Colorado Christian University, within the College of Adult and Graduate Studies - School of Education Professions. She has taught over 120 courses since 2015 and received the 2018 Outstanding Faculty Member Award. Her academic leadership spans teacher education, special education, and online program development.

Dr. Lohmann's research centers on Special Education, Universal Design for Learning (UDL), classroom management, assistive technology, and innovations in online teacher preparation. She is particularly focused on inclusive early childhood education and supporting learners in hybrid and remote environments. Her work bridges Christian education values with evidence-based pedagogical practices.

Her recent publications reflect a strong emphasis on online engagement, asynchronous learning strategies, and teacher development in rural and alternative certification contexts. Themes include UDL implementation, behavior support in early grades, and the use of digital tools to enhance accessibility and inclusion.

Dr. Lohmann serves as principal investigator for the Scholarships and Collaboration Offering Opportunities for Reforming Education (SCOORE) project, which aims to strengthen the teacher pipeline for Christian and charter schools in Colorado. She advises on program development and is actively involved in professional service, including editorial board membership for seven journals and leadership roles in CEC-TED and Colorado TED. She has presented over four dozen times at international conferences.

She is actively engaged in professional communities such as CO-PEEL and serves on multiple journal editorial review boards, reflecting her influence in the field of special and teacher education.
