Markus Tuller is a Professor in the Department of Soil, Water and Environmental Science at the University of Arizona. His research focuses on advancing the management of natural and agricultural ecosystems through remote sensing of land surface properties (e.g., soil moisture and evapotranspiration) and optimizing soilless culture production systems. He teaches courses such as Soil Physics and Modeling Mass and Energy in Soils.
Education: Ph.D. in Soil Physics and Water Management from the University of Natural Resources and Applied Life Sciences, Vienna, Austria.
Research interests include soil physics, remote sensing applications for environmental monitoring, and soil hydraulic properties. His work combines field, laboratory, and modeling approaches to address challenges in water resource management and environmental sustainability.
Major awards include the Excellence in Multistate Research Award from USDA NIFA (2021), Fellow of the Soil Science Society of America (2016), and recognition for editorial service and leadership in soil physics.
His scholarly contributions span over 100 peer-reviewed articles, focusing on soil moisture estimation, soil-water retention curves, and environmental variable modeling using remote sensing and machine learning techniques.
