Markus Mühlhan

Markus Mühlhan is currently serving as Professor ad interim for Neuroscience at the Faculty of Human Sciences, Department of Psychology, MSH Medical School Hamburg. He maintains a dual affiliation as a research assistant at the Institute of Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy, Department of Psychology, Faculty of Science, Technische Universität Dresden.

His research focuses on the neurobiological basis of stress and anxiety, combining clinical and non-clinical approaches. Key areas include:

• Misregulated cognitive control mechanisms in specific phobia and their therapeutic implications
• Epigenetic modifications from childhood abuse affecting stress systems and brain architecture
• Neuroimaging of salience networks and corticolimbic circuits
• Stress biomarkers like hair cortisol and salivary alpha-amylase in addiction contexts

Publications demonstrate expertise in functional MRI analysis, activation likelihood estimation, and gene-environment interactions. Awards highlight excellence in teaching (Karl und Charlotte Bühler Award, 2010-2015) and international research recognition (OHBM Travel Awards, 2012, 2016).
