Markus Keck is a Professor of Urban Climate Resilience at the University of Augsburg's Faculty of Applied Computer Science, Institute of Geography. With a PhD in Geography (University of Bonn, 2012) and an MSc in Geography (University of Cologne, 2007), he has held academic positions at Goettingen University (Assistant Professor, 2013-2019), University of Bonn (Interim Professor, 2020), and University of Frankfurt (Guest Professor, 2018+2019). Since 2023, he serves as Managing Director of the Institute of Geography.
His research focuses on critical climate resilience, urban geography, agri-food systems, and urban-rural linkages. He employs actor-network theory, practice theories, and participatory methods to examine climate adaptation in Germany and South Asia. Key projects include NutriAIDE (smart food environments in India), GROW (health resilience of youth in climate-vulnerable cities), and ResCUE (resilience in Ugandan agriculture under environmental change.
Recent publications analyze Bt cotton failures in India, urban food governance in Bangladesh, and climate resilience strategies across G7 countries. He has co-edited volumes on South Asian geographies and contributed to journals like Sustainability Science and Urban Studies.
As Editor-in-Chief of DIE ERDE since 2023, he shapes geographical discourse. He serves on grant review panels for DFG, DAAD, and international foundations, while leading climate resilience research initiatives.
