Markus Hechtle is a Professor of Composition at the Hochschule für Musik Karlsruhe since 2013, following his tenure at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln (2009–2019). Born in 1967, he studied composition with Wolfgang Rihm and later with Heiner Goebbels, Mathias Spahlinger, and others. His work encompasses orchestral pieces, chamber music, and theatrical productions, collaborating with ensembles like Klangforum Wien and Ensemble Modern. He serves as a freelance editor for the ZKM | Center for Art and Media Karlsruhe and contributes to broadcasts for Deutschlandradio Kultur and SWR.
Research interests span composition techniques, music technology, and interdisciplinary performance practices. His theoretical writings address aesthetic philosophy, music pedagogy, and cultural critique, published in journals like MusikTexte and Neue Zeitschrift für Musik.
