Associate Professor Markus Dick is a faculty member at the Institute of Corporate Finance, Department of Corporate Finance at Johannes Kepler University Linz (JKU Linz) in Austria. He also serves as a Visiting Professor at the Alpen-Adria University Klagenfurt since October 2024. His academic journey at JKU Linz began with a student assistant position at the Institute for Corporate Finance in 1998, progressing through various academic ranks to his current position as Associate Professor since 2017.

Markus Dick's research focuses primarily on corporate finance with special emphasis on family businesses. His work explores capital structure, dividend policy, and corporate governance of family firms, particularly in Central Europe. He has conducted extensive research on the financial aspects of family businesses, including their internationalization strategies, the impact of ownership structure on financial decisions, and the relationship between family influence and corporate social responsibility. His research often employs both theoretical frameworks and empirical analysis, with a particular focus on comparative studies between Austria and Poland.
His scientific contributions have been recognized with several prestigious awards including the VKB Science Prize 2017, Raiffeisenlandesbank OÖ Science Prize 2017, and the Maria Curie Science Prize 2016. His habilitation thesis on "Capital Structure, Dividend Policy and Corporate Governance of Listed Family Businesses – Evidence for Central Europe" was particularly well-regarded in the academic community.
Throughout his career, Professor Dick has collaborated extensively with colleagues including Helmut Pernsteiner, Eva Wagner, and researchers from Maria Curie-Skłodowska University in Poland. His work bridges theoretical finance concepts with practical applications in family business management, contributing significantly to our understanding of how family ownership influences financial decision-making processes.
