Markus Anne

Markus Anne is a Professor and Chair in the Department of Health Policy and Management at The George Washington University's Milken Institute School of Public Health. She joined in 1996 and holds full-time faculty status. Her academic career spans over 30 years, focusing on health policy, access to care, and social justice for vulnerable populations including women, trans/nonbinary individuals, children, and low-income groups. She divides her time between the U.S. and Switzerland, where she is a citizen.

Research Interests:

Her work centers on health policy reforms, Medicaid/CHIP programs, maternal and child health, and chronic disease management (e.g., asthma, HIV/AIDS). She leads translational research, such as the CHAMPS project to improve asthma care in community health centers. Her recent studies analyze social determinants of health, policy impacts on healthcare access, and disparities in cancer screening.

Teaching & Service:

Teaches courses like Maternal and Child Health Policy Analysis and Comparative Health Systems. Serves as Chair of Howard County School Health Council (until 2021) and Trustee of Howard County Library System. Leads the Women's Health Issues journal as Associate Editor and contributes to institutes like the Center for Health Policy Research.
