Prof. Dr. habil. Marko Pantermöller is a permanent Professor of Finnish Studies at the Institute for Finnish and Scandinavian Studies, University of Greifswald, holding the chair since 2016. He was previously appointed as a W3 Professor for Finnish Studies (2010–2016) and served as a research assistant and deputy chair at the same institution. He also holds an adjunct professorship (dosentti) for Finnish Language at the University of Turku, Finland.
Research Interests include historical aspects of Finnish linguistics, such as abessivity in written language (16th–19th centuries), the lexical and orthographic integration of foreign words in Finnish, and the role of translations in shaping Finnish national literature. His work bridges linguistic theory, lexicology, and literary history.
Academic Recognition includes the prestigious Doctoral Prize of the University of Greifswald (2002) and a habilitation degree (Dr. phil. habil.) with a thesis on abessivity in Finnish. His venia legendi (private lectureship) covers both Finnish linguistics and literature.
