Marko Ilić is a Departmental Lecturer in History of Art at the University of Oxford, affiliated with St Peter's College. His research explores contemporary art within social, political, and institutional frameworks, with a focus on global modernisms, transnational artistic networks, and post-conflict practices.
- Education: BA from University of Cambridge; MA and PhD from The Courtauld Institute of Art
His 2021 monograph A Slow Burning Fire: The Rise of the New Art Practice in Yugoslavia links Yugoslav avant-garde practices to global capitalist dynamics and geopolitical decline. Current projects include a co-edited volume on art and populism and a monograph analyzing art's role in post-conflict societies.
Scientific awards include:
- Leverhulme Early Career Fellowship (University College London)
Prior teaching roles include The Courtauld, Newcastle University, and the Universities of Cambridge and York. His writings appear in Third Text, ArtMargins, and museum catalogues.
