Markku Kuula is a Professor at Aalto University School of Business since 2009, holding the academic rank of Professor. He leads the Department of Information and Service Management and currently chairs Aalto University's Professors Council (2022-2023). His roles include serving on the Board of Heureka Science Centre (since 2022) and as Associate Editor of the Decision Sciences Journal (since 2014).
Research focuses on logistics, supply chain management, operations management, quality management, decision-making processes, public sector management, and ICT management. Notable contributions include studies on supply chain risk management, remote work productivity, and circular economy integration.
Key awards include the Peccei Scholarship Honorable Mention (1989), Finnish Forest Science Society Medal (1997), and Chris Voss Highly Commended Paper Award (2014). Recent publications explore telework strategies, crisis logistics, and triple-crowned accreditation models in education.
Professional service includes past presidency of the European Division of the Decision Sciences Institute (2021-2022) and board memberships at European Decision Sciences Institute since 2013. His work bridges academic research with practical applications in both private and public sectors.
