Mark Xu is a Professor of Information Management at the University of Portsmouth's Faculty of Business & Law, affiliated with the School of Organisations, Systems and People. He leads executive courses and has served as Head of Operations and Systems Management for a decade. His research focuses on strategic information management, digital technology applications, Responsible AI governance, sustainable capability development, and global supply chain traceability. He has secured over £1 million in research funding through projects like a KTP with Entec Global Ltd, funded by Innovate UK.
Education: PhD in Management Information Systems (MIS) from the UK Open University (1998). Research interests include managerial information behavior, business intelligence, cybersecurity governance, and digital transformation impacts. Current projects emphasize Responsible AI ethics/risk governance, food safety traceability systems, and B2B AI-driven inventory platforms.
He has supervised over 10 doctoral students and published over 60 peer-reviewed articles. His work contributes to UN SDGs related to responsible consumption (SDG12) and industry innovation (SDG9). Key collaborations include projects in China and the UK, with recent focus on urban resilience and agile software frameworks.
